PRESTON TAYLOR
Born and raised in a small town in South Carolina, Preston was not exposed to or pushed into songwriting as a kid. Despite not growing up in a musical household, he dabbled in piano and managed to teach himself the guitar when in middle school. Though never attempting songwriting, music became one of the main creative outlets for Preston throughout his adolescence.
In his junior year of high school, Preston was approached by Daniel Nesbit to play guitar in a band during their lunch break, a study hall pastime which would turn into the project undecided(Gray Skills). When Daniel first began recording music later that year, Preston began writing songs for the first time, while simultaneously discovering the process of recording and producing. These attempts culminated in an album he released on soundcloud during the summer of 2018, as well as two EP’s later that same summer.
In 2019, Preston released two albums that were written, recorded, and produced entirely by himself (Trying to Find My Place in This World, Time Alone). A reflection of his thoughts and emotions at the time, these albums encompass the recognized ending of adolescence and all that comes with it. Preston was selected in the fall of 2019 to write a song for Guerilla: A Visual Album, a short film directed by Giancarlo Lobo that was released in May 2020, resulting in the single ‘Solid Room.’
Realising that he really has no idea how to write a song or even anything formal about production, Preston spent all of 2020 focusing on songwriting and production as separate entities, filling up his songwriting notebook and computer hard drive with overly produced demos and instrumentals.
During the summer of 2021, Preston lived with Daniel Nesbit and the two worked together in creating girlmoms alongside Jake Forgay, all the while working on his third album and first release via Spent Youth, Interpellation, which was released on August 6th, 2021, his 20th birthday. During this time Preston aided in the recording of Bundt Cakes’ debut album, Selfish, and aided in production, mixing, and mastering of the album.
Currently living in Brooklyn, Preston is currently working on what will be his fourth album, entiteld
